Candice Olson Bathrooms

Creating a relaxing, spacious AND functional bathroom can be a challenge, but Candice Olson, author of the new book Candice Olson Kitchens & Baths (and Good Housekeeping's April Ask a Designer), makes small changes that create a big impact. Read on for some clever tips from her book on maximizing space and style in your bathroom:
Ditch a toilet with a tank. It takes up valuable above-the-bowl storage room that could be the perfect place to hang a cabinet or an eye catching piece of art.
Get retro with vinyl. Instead of buying expensive tile flooring, use vinyl (in the picture above it's scored to look like 6x6 inch tile). Not only is it a perfect choice for a bathroom — it happens to be seamless, waterproof, and easy to maintain — but it comes in a ton of colors and textures, making it easy incorporate in a variety of spaces.
Make it eye catching. Customized mosaic tile on the walls looks gorgeous, but can drive up the cost of a bathroom remodel. Instead choose one wall or area and tile it. It will generate a stunning focal point and add color to the shower and tub walls.
Be unsinkable. A floating sink creates the illusion of space and offers a great storage spot for miscellaneous products or baskets full of towels.
Get heated. A heated towel rack may seem like an indulgence, but not only will it keep your towels toasty but it also comfortably warms the bathroom as well.
